Ideas to Reduce your Environmental Impact this Holiday Season:
- Buy a Potted Tree. Today my boyfriend and I bought a potted Christmas tree! This way we are not sacrificing a tree that has taken years to grow only to use it for a couple weeks then send it to a landfill. My plan is to plant it in the garden come spring.
- Use Gift Bags instead of Wrapping Paper. During the holidays and birthdays I collect the gift bags and keep them stashed for this time of year. Using a gift bag not only saves a whole lot of time when preparing gifts, its also cuts down on the amount of paper needed to be recycled or put in the trash.
- Give Homemade Gifts or Experiences instead of store bought gifts. These are normally the gifts that I value the most because I know the person put in a lot of thought. You could buy someone a ski lift ticket to one of their favorite mountains and have the memories for years to come.
- Buy it Local. Think about how far you are traveling to visit family and friends. Maybe you can call them up and let them know you are thinking of them. Think local first when shopping also, today for example we were buying some alcohol, I decided to get beer from a local brewing company instead of a wine from half way around the world.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays Everyone!
